Save the Children International, El Salvador Latin America

Our Work in Latin America
Save the Children works in Latin America/Caribbean to provide for some of the world’s poorest children. With a population of 568 million, nearly 25 % live on less than $2 a day. Save the Children works in these areas to help bring hope and possibilities into children’s lives, allowing them to thrive in the bright futures they all deserve.

El Salvador, the smallest Central American country, has faced some of the region's greatest challenges.
Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, conflict and gang violence, plus epidemics have wreaked havoc on the Salvadoran people for decades. Save the Children has worked in El Salvador since 1979 – just prior to the onset of the country's 12-year-long civil war.
