The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was established on December 14, 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. The agency is mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. Its primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. It strives to ensure that everyone can exercise the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another State, with the option to return home voluntarily, integrate locally or to resettle in a third country. It also has a mandate to help stateless people.

Since 1950, the agency has helped tens of millions of people restart their lives. Today, a staff of more than 9,300 people in 123 countries continues to help and protect millions of refugees, returnees, internally displaced and stateless people.

UNICEF (Headquarters)

UNICEF works for a world in which every child has a fair chance in life.

UNICEF promotes the rights and wellbeing of every child, in everything we do. Together with our partners, we work in 190 countries and territories to translate that commitment into practical action, focusing special effort on reaching the most vulnerable and excluded children, to the benefit of all children, everywhere.

In all of its work, UNICEF takes a life-cycle based approach, recognizing the particular importance of early childhood development and adolescence. UNICEF programmes focus on the most disadvantaged children, including those living in fragile contexts, those with disabilities, those who are affected by rapid urbanization and those affected by environmental degradation.

The UCSF School of Nursing offers coursework and training for disaster preparedness for nurses. Our nurses volunteer for local disasters such as floods and fires, as well as international disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, the Ebola outbreak in West Africa and the earthquake in Haiti. Many victims are children and nurses are key to favorable outcomes and stability in such settings.

USAHello

USAHello uses technology to help refugees build new lives in the US. We offer online services and programs to help refugees and asylees gain the skills they need to achieve their goals and have successful resettlement experiences.
Mission
USAHello facilitates successful refugee resettlement transitions by strengthening access to resources and helping refugees build community through shared knowledge.
USAHello’s interactive, multi-language website provides educational opportunities and general information about American society, and connects refugees with services, programs, and organizations in their new communities.
Vision
USAHello envisions a world of peace and justice in which refugee resettlement is unnecessary. Until that day, RCO envisions a resettlement process in which communities celebrate refugees and the stories and cultural traditions they carry, and in which refugees feel empowered to lead fulfilling, dignified lives.
